Rotary Club of Calumet-Laurium-KeweenawOur Rotary Club was founded in 1950 and is part of Rotary District 6220. Geographically we are the northern most Club in the 6620 District; located on Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula (technically speaking we are on an island) and surrounded by the waters of Lake Superior.
The C-L-K Rotary Club meets at 12:10 PM on Wednesdays at the Miscowaubik Club in Calumet. The Miscowaubik Club is located in Calumet, Michigan on U.S. Highway 41 (Calumet Avenue) between the Calumet Schools' campus and the headquarters for Keweenaw National Historical Park.
Miscowaubik is a Native American word for copper. In the early 20th century almost half of the world's total copper production came from Keweenaw mines. The post-steam engine industrial revolution was achieved from plentiful Keweenaw copper for electric powered lights, motors and communications.
Our Club is active in the preservation of the rich cultural history of our area, as well as promoting the goals of Rotary International.
Our Club has received a Children's Opportunity Grant from the Rotary Foundation. We are proudly using these funds to bring awareness to our community about the hidden danger of lead poisoning.
